Dental implants are one way of replacing missing teeth.
They are small metal devises like a screw fitting which is inserted into the jawbone during surgery. Teeth, in the form of a crown, bridge or denture, are then attached to the implant.
Patients need to have healthy gums, and enough bone to take the implant that supports the replacement teeth although techniques are available to add additional bone if required.
Implant patients need to be in good general health and be prepared to maintain good oral health. Smoking may well shorten the life of an implant.
